Depending on the goals of the therapeutic relationship, one-on-one personal counselling may take a variety of  forms and include Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Happenstance Learning Theory, Synchronicity Learning Theory, and Brief Solution Focused Therapy. After an initial counselling appointment, a contract will be drawn up that includes both my expectations and offerings as a therapist as well as an initial plan to address the client's goals. Not every counselling therapist is a "fit" for every client, so it is vitally important that clients feel empowered as the experts in their own lives, capable of ending the counselling relationship if at any point they feel it is not meeting their needs.

Working with couples means providing a space for open communication while determining, together, what the major goals of the counselling sessions will be. Couples' therapy can often take time, and may be helpful to you if you are interested in recovering from infidelity, building more intimacy, fostering better communication skills, or even taking the steps required to end a relationship in a loving and respectful way.

Times of transition can be scary, and having the support of a certified counselling therapist experienced in the search for life meaning can be helpful to some. Perimenopause and menopause can often lead to new questions about what is most important in life - and may also be compounded by empty nest syndrome and changing relationship dynamics. Considering deep questions around what is most important to you as you transition through the second half of life is a central focus of the counselling relationship.

These days, more and more youth and adults are being diagnosed with ADD and dyslexia. As parents - it can often feel overwhelming knowing how to interpret reports from schools and psychologists while doing your best to help your child learn and grow. As adults with your own diagnosis, or suspicions that you would meet the criteria for a diagnosis if you had the opportunity to be tested, it can also feel overwhelming not knowing how you can best navigate the challenges in your own life. Counselling may assist you in naming these challenges and identifying helpful strategies using a strength-based approach.
