Dr. Janet Payne

I have been working with individuals and families for over twenty-four years, became nationally certified with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association in 2006, and provincially licensed as a counselling therapist in both Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Payne Family Wellness was established in 2018 and provides an on-line option for Atlantic Canadians seeking psychological services from the convenience of their own home - offering individual, couple, and family counselling services for those in need. I have experience working with clients who are dealing with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, addictions, relationship challenges, infidelity, communication problems, parenting challenges, and the demands of intergenerational living.

With a PhD in Education and extensive experience working with children and adults with learning differences, I offer assistance to adults and younger students struggling with ADHD and dyslexia, and provide support to both parents and their children. Finally, after having worked as a career counsellor for many years, I also offer support with career decision making, academic advisement, and the search for life meaning. This is often helpful to clients going through life transitions such as job loss due to illness and injury, high school graduations, relationship breakdowns, empty nest syndrome, and the challenges that come during menopause and perimenopause. As a woman with years of lived experience, it is a privilege to walk along side clients as they navigate these liminal spaces and seek their next best steps along life's path.
